Reminders for Using an Eyedropper

  1. Follow your doctor’s instructions exactly as to when & how
  2. If your medication can be refrigerated, the cold will help you to know where the drop landed
  3. Wash your hands before and after. Shake the bottle. Do not touch the dropper tip after removing the cap
  4. Tilt your head back, look up, use one hand to lower the eyelid down (away from the eye) to form a pocket below the eye
  5. Squeeze the bottle gently and let one drop fall into the pocket
  6. Close your eyes … Do not blink!
  7. Apply gentle pressure to your tear ducts (near your nose) and hold for a minute or two until the medication is absorbed into your eye (instead of draining into your nose)
  8. If any drops leak out, use a tissue to wipe them from your closed eyelids
