Macular Degeneration Foundation, Inc. is a 501c3 tax-exempt charitable foundation. It was founded in 1989 by Edmund J. Alex, a Silicon Valley business man who developed age-related macular degeneration in his mid 70’s. Until his death in 2009 at the age of 94, Ed dedicated his life to raising awareness of a disease that most people had never heard of. He began raising money for research from anyone that would listen and began publishing a newsletter called the MAGNIFIER designed to assist others with low vision to cope with the disease.

Since 2005, his former assistant, Liz Trauernicht, has overseen the Foundation as President with the very same enthusiasm and dedication.

Today the Foundation has relationships with key people and institutions in the field of vision research. Dedicated research scientists now offer us exclusive interviews revealing their efforts to understand the mechanisms of macular degeneration. We record and post those interviews to MacularNews.org for public viewing. These video’s have become a unique record of scientific investigations that hold promise for a cure and encouragement to those impacted by macular disease.

We hope you enjoy exploring the features of Eyesight.org and keeping up with posted Reports. Please tell us how we’re doing. We are here to serve your interests and appreciate your comments.
